It's great to meet mums-to-be from all over the world - I guess this is a bonus of having a studio in London and offering a CD with all images from your session. Kate is from Canada which I hold a great affinity for as, I was helped by Canadian travellers in Laos, when I run out of cash and there were no ATM machines there in those days. Tasteful Nude Pregnancy Photography

I am often asked if I shoot nude maternity photography images and the answer is always 'YES'. I tend not to post these images in my blog or on my website as I understand not every lady would like the whole world to see them in their birthday suit. Maybe I'll ask some of my previous clients if they are happy for me to use their images on my web page to help other ladies get an idea if a) it's something they might consider doing and b) how lovely a tasteful nude of a pregnant lady looks.

Okasana came for her pregnancy photography shoot with some lovely ideas she wanted to try out. It's been a while since anyone has requested a natural light portrait by the french doors in the studio but I guess the dark, gloomy weather didn't produce the best light for this kind of portrait. Undeterred, I managed to place one of my lights on the balcony which gave us the lovely, afternoon sunshine effect we were after! It seems it's quite a popular set up and more mums to be are asking for it as part of their maternity photography session. Great as I think this is a fabulous shot too. Well done Oksana's husband Yoni who sat through the whole session very patiently and despite not wanting to be in the photographs ended up looking very cool.

She requested we try on the burgundy drapes to see how they will look in addition to the white ones most mums to be opt for, and is only the second ever person to do so - I guess they require someone with a darker complexion otherwise they will make one look too pale which is last thing we ladies need at this time of year. Joanna and her husband Piotr are a young, vibrant couple and it's great to have the dads to be join in the fun of a pregnancy photography session. It seems that the sessions fall into two different categories - one where the mums to be want to do a surprise session and present the images to their husbands/partners and the other one involves their other halves and older siblings. Both sessions are just as much fun as in one I feel as if I am in on the surprise and in the other, I am capturing memories for their family album. I am still playing catch up but will no doubt get there in the end. Helen and Thomas are a lovely couple and came to the studio for a pregnancy photography session a month before their due date. Imagine my surprise when I called them a week later to let them know the images were ready to hear that they were in a hospital and Helen has just given birth to a baby boy!
I assumed first babies tend to arrive a bit late and it's obviously not the case. As a result I have convinced myself my second mini mite might make an early en trace and have started to prepare the new nursery as of last week. Hannah and Jeff's Pregnancy Photography Session

Hannah and Jeff got to the studio with just a week to go till the due date. Close but then I remember another couple who managed to squeeze a maternity photography session with just two days to go! The session was very lively and Hannah got to test ride my new white leather rocking chair - I got it in mind with using it in pregnancy shoots and later on for mums to lie back in and cradle their little ones on their chest when they return for a newborn photography session.

Beautiful Malgosia is expecting twins - How exciting is that! She has such a neat belly I couldn't tell she was carrying a little boy and a girl in there. Elke's Pregnancy Portrait session

Elke, Dario and Sophie are such a lovely family - relaxed, happy and very smiley. Little Sophie is a star and a fabulous dancer which meant we were all entertained through Elke's pregnancy photography session. With only a month and a half to go, Elke was radiant and full of optimism for the birth of her baby.

The whole session went very smoothly and we ended up with lots of photographs they will be able to look back on in the future with fond memories of this special time in their lives. We all have lots of pics from parties, holidays and even school portraits but a maternity portrait is so special as we only have few opportunities in our lives to capture our bumps along with the look of hope and anticipation on our faces. Lucy's Maternity Shoot

I have been in touch with Lucy for good few months and all we were waiting for, was for her belly to grow to a 'good size'. I have had the pleasure to meet and photograph some wonderful pregnant ladies recently. All at different stages in their pregnancy , from different backgrounds and with different plans for their baby's birth. On the other hand they were all delighted to be pregnant and to able to have that moment in time captured forever. It's lovely to hear that a lot of them are not only looking to hang these images on their walls but also to share them with their friends and families who often live on the other side of the globe. After a spell of photographing pregnant ladies and kids who were modeling clothing and shoes for children's fashion shops I have finally found time to update my blog. Baby Oliver and family came over to the studio for a shoot nearly 3 weeks ago. His huge eyes and sweet face were begging to be photographed and it was real pleasure to have such a relaxed baby in front of my lens. Mum and dad did equally well which shows in the end results.

Maternity Photography

With Spring in the air I have decided I wanted to try my hand at maternity photography - I wished I tried it sooner! It's lovely, creative and I feel like I am a part of something really special right at the beginning of it. Mums to be which opt for a pregnancy portrait session seem to be at ease with their bodies and positively embrace their pregnancy. It's great to witness it and to see a look of love, anticipation and hope beaming from their faces as they cuddle their bumps . Apart from surprising myself at how much fun maternity photography is, I was also taken aback at how many partners come along and enjoy taking part in the portrait shoot too. Good on you guys! Next step is to wait for all you bumps to hatch and meet the wrinkly new arrivals.

Jelly Monster

Oscar has discovered jelly and will start wibble wobbling at the sight of it. It's such fun food - firstly he eats it with a spoon, then he speeds up the plate to mouth process by picking up huge wobbly chunks with his little hands, and eventually when he can't eat anymore, he just squishes it and watches it come up between his fingers. Just when I think he's done, he decides to give his hands a good shake to remove excess jelly... I am still finding it in places like the curtains which were nowhere close to where he was.

Snow in and around Ealing.

I am quite sure most children loved being out and about in the snow today as well as having a day off school too. Oscar didn't know what to make of it as he took his first squeaky steps in knee deep snow. There were a lot of 'WOW' and 'OOOOH' sounds and even more when we came across the first snow lady. He gave her a hug and then tried to nick her pretty buttons. So cute!

In Pitshanger Park there was so much activity - children having snowball fights, dogs chasing one another, young couples making angels in the snow, snowmen mid construction everywhere. I came across Jamie ( I hope I got the name right), and his dad who just arrived and got the first ball rolling. Jamie had a Union Jack flag with him which a) made him visible from miles away, b) made him look as though he was off on an Antarctic expedition. I feel it represents the spirit of Britain today.

Messy Eater

Little munchkin Oscar was photographed few days ago while having his breakfast. As you can see from the photographs, the boy loves his food... a slice of toast, an apple and a pot of plain yogurt disappeared before I could say Jack Rabbit. Not all the yogurt made it to his mouth though - he's still only a baby and hasn't quite worked out how much fits on a spoon. I would have loved to help him but was enjoying taking the photographs instead.

My published Work

I have been meaning to post these for a while now.... I am so pleased with the William Boyd's book cover for his 'Fascination' collection of short stories. It was for the hardback U.S. and Canadian editions - seems I was too late for the U.K. one. Never mind, next time.

Also enclosing Adam Thorpe's book cover for 'Between Each Breath'. I wish it looked better than it does - I guess some images don't reproduce so well. Shame. On the positive front, it's another published image and that always feels pretty good. I am dusting off my old camera and am on a mission to take more creative photographs. I promise.

Jack and Archie

Sweet little pumpkin Archie and older brother Jack were both delightful in different ways - Jack was inquisitive, full of life and happy to help out as my 'assist

ant' and it was great to have him take my light meter readings. Archie on the other hand is the kind of kid one just wants to hug and hug and hug some more and then cuddle (just to change the scene a bit). His big blue eyes make one weak in the knees and so far everyone has commented on them and his understated half smile portrait which appears on the home page of my website.

Christmas Season

It's been way too long since my last blog! A lot has happened in the last month and a half- I had so many bookings for photography in the lead up to Christmas that I had to put in some serious overtime to finish everything up before going on holiday. Although it was hard work, the images were absolutely lovely - patience, persistence and bribery ensured all little angels looked great and smiling or even laughing at some point during the shoot. I've had some wonderful feedback and the only disappointment I've had was my hard drive biting the dust in a spectacular fashion which led to a lot of work as well as personal photographs, vanishing from the face of this earth. It was heart breaking! As a result I am backed up and triple backed up to ensure nothing like this ever happens again.

On a more positive note, I have found myself a fabulous local picture framer who offers great framing at competitive prices - real oak which he stains black, charcoal, whitewash or leaves it it's natural colour or polished chrome which looks great around black and white photographs - all made to order and since I don't mark up his prices it ensures customers are able to have marvelous wall prints at under £110 all inclusive!

Another brilliant find was a company which prints images directly onto acrylic sheets which look absolutely amazing. I got some samples printed up and will add them as soon as I have photographed them.

One Week Old Baby Jax

Newborns are so sweet!!! No wonder everyone goes soft in the knees when they see one - Jax was no exception - cute, quiet and looking very relaxed. Cameras? What cameras? Am chilling and that's that. On the other hand 2 year olds are already trying to pretend they are all grown up - big sister Naya is making sure Jax is well fed by placing biscuits near his mouth. Nice try but how about in 6 months time!

Even on wet, dark, miserable days it's exciting to put up the lights and take photographs of children. You never know where it will take you - will they be happy or moody, excited or bored. One minute you are all ready to start taking photographs in one room but before you know it your 'model' is leading you up the stairs to show you their bedroom. It's good to go with the flow and go on a journey with them. Jess certainly was up for a laugh. I love the photograph of her lying on her patchwork quilt clapping her hands and playing peek-a-boo. My other favourite is the one of baby Sam and mum close to the window - the light, despite the pouring rain was just perfect and we got a lovely, natural portrait of mum and her new baby.

Pregnancy Photography Session

Aliya was 8 1/2 months pregnant when I took her portraits. She was radiant, relaxed and looking forward to meeting her baby daughter in few weeks time. We had warm September sunlight streaming through the tall, Victorian sash windows. She was wearing this fabulous 'Versace' style flowy dress and I decided to have Aliya lean on comfy cushions of a bright orange 70's style sofa. Combination of the sunlight, her long hair and the vibrant colours of the dress help me create wonderful, fashion like pregnancy portraits of a stunning young lady.

Hello,

Autumn is here and it was lovely to be able to incorporate the brightly coloured fallen leaves and shiny conkers into a recent shoot of a one month old baby Catherine. She was a star and such a smiler and didn't seem to mind one bit the flash going off. Photographing babies under 6 months old seems so relaxing and peaceful. After that, things pick up a pace and fast running shoes are sometimes needed. I'll keep you posted on my new endeavours and will post some photographs of Aliya who was 8 1/2 months pregnant when I took portraits of her.
